5. Neglecting development and refinement of the mind, and not acquiring the habit of reading and studying.

CPA requires some amount of studying to pass the exam. But as we all know, passing an exam is like just getting into the entrance. There are so much things that we need to learn.

However, when Cicero mentions about "development and refinement of the mind," he is not only talking about professional development. He is mentioning about learning about spiritual and philosophical matters.

I believe the people that lived before us had more time to think about things. The books they read must have had more meat than what we read now. In this age, we have so much information available to us, and we need to be very careful to select the information we take in. If we are not careful, we can be influenced by junk and be a junky person.

I think reading quality books and taking time to think about what you learn will help you grow both at work and life.
