Your cliff
Are you facing a cliff? What is the cliff in front of you?
Whatever it is, climb it. That is the only way for you to grow. What separates people that succeed and people who don't is what they do when the cliff is in front of you. Whatever the cliff may be, you will need to conquer it in order to succeed.
As you conquer one cliff after another, climbing cliffs will get easier. After a while, a cliff is not something that you drag yourself to conquer, but something that will give you joy. It is so easy to find excuses not to climb the cliff. "I have too many things to do," "My future is not sure," "This is notmy style," are all excuses.
I understand that at Two Miles many things are demanded than a usual company. You may feel like you are lost in the woods without instruction you deserve. If you think that you want a workplace where you do the same thing for a long time and grow gradually, perhaps for over 5 years before you are confident enough to talk to entrepreneurs and business owners, then another 5 years till you may feel confident to start your own accounting firm, then you may want to work there. Two Miles may not be the right place for you.
As a professional staff of Two Miles, I want our team members to grow in half of that time. In order to grow, you will need to be able to look at businesses from the owner's point of view. In order to look from the owner's point of view, you will need to participate in running a company. To run a company, there are so many things to do. The more you participate, the faster you grow.
As you work in Two Miles, your cliff may not be one big cliff but a lot of small cliffs. Try to climb as many as you can. I assure you that you will grow faster than any one else in the industry.

Looking forward
When you climb a cliff, you want to look forward. You don't want to rest until you conquer the cliff because if you rest and start to look down or around you, you may get scared. Just keep on climbing.
You will need to stay positive and believe that you can conquer the cliff. first step when facing a cliff is to take a deep breath and put things in perspective. Clear mind and focus will give you energy. Ir will relieve you of the stress that you feel when you start something new.
Once you start climbing, stay focused and take one step at a time to conquer the cliff. Always stay focused on looking forward. Stay positive. Staying focused and positive is the the key to keep going. If you start doubting about yourself, go back and put things in perspective again.
At least that is how I try to conquer cliffs. I am timid, and have a tendency to think of a 5 meter cliff as if it is a 50 meter cliff. That is why I need to stop and put things in perspective all the time. Once you put things in perspective, it is much easier to climb. Yes the climb may be tough sometimes, but putting things in perspective and staying positive will help you more than anything else.
Try it. Your giant cliff may become a miniature cliff.

Cliff
Sometimes the cliff can look enormous. You become scared or discouraged standing in front of the giant cliff. You are hesitant of starting to climb the cliff. Or you may just try half heartedly to climb the cliff by putting only a little bit of effort, looking for excuses.
When you climb a cliff, you need to put a lot more energy to climbing. It may mean longer working hours. It needs much more energy in a given time compared to walking a smooth path. But I assure you that it is worth every inch you climb as long as you are putting a lot of energy to it. Half hearted effort will lead to half climb. You will be resting in the middle of the cliff. You will not be able to see the smooth path, which is really enjoyable, unless you climb all the way.
Also, camaraderie will help you climb. That is why creating a good team is so important. As in our mission statement, we need to help each other to climb. But also remember that other s will help you to climb, but cannot climb for you. You will need to do the climbing yourself.
As a company, we try to make sure you are climbing the cliff in a good pace. We do not need people who are resting in the middle of the cliff as professional staff. Also, we need to help those who are trying to climb, if they are willing to put in 100%.
Are you putting 100% in climbing whatever cliff you are facing?

Professional growth
Professional growth is not like going up a smooth hill. If you expect a smooth hill, you will be troubled. Rather it is like going up a hill with multiple cliffs and easy paths. You face a cliff, you climb up the cliff and find a nice path waiting in front of you. You can walk the nice path for a while till you face the next cliff, and you will need to climb that to reach the next easy path.
The first cliff may be the understanding of accounting and how it is used in actual business circumstances. Unless you can climb this first cliff, nothing will make sense. But after you climb the cliff, a lot of things will make sense. The secret for climbing a cliff compared to walking a path is that it will force you to use a lot of energy in a short time. You cannot climb a cliff too slowly, because it will exhaust your energy and other issues will come in your way. You cannot spend years in climbing the cliff. You want to climb it in a rather short time.
On the other hand, conquering cliffs are what brings joy to work. Without cliffs, our job will be not very interesting. Also, we are called professionals because of the existence of the cliffs. Are you experiencing a cliff in front of you? Is it a giant cliff? Are you enjoying the challenge?

waiting room
Waiting room
Do you feel like you are growing? It will be so nice if we can feel that we are growing everyday. Growing everyday is our motto. We try to make each day a day you gave 100%, and a day that we have made at least one improvement in an area.
In reality, this is very difficult. There are days when we don’t feel like we are improving. It may not be days, but maybe months. We become worried and feel anxious about our performance, and spend much energy on fruitless worries.
Bible is filled with examples of people who were put in a “waiting room” before they became super successful. Not for days, but years. Something like 40 years!
I have experienced waiting rooms in my career. I was certainly not very good at copying with those days, but I know what I could have done. Staying positive and making the best of the circumstances I was in.
We cannot control our circumstances but can control our attitudes. Make the best out of your day!
